Under the Common Law the state could not interfere with the natural right of custody of a fit parent (even during a divorce) nor could they impose child support without showing that the child was abandoned or abused. Now the states, under equity, ignore natural rights and impose child support like in the Soviet Union. Lenin devised a system to destroy families. So why did a country based on rights of its citizens adopt such a rude and foreign set of laws? The answer is the money lawyers and the judiciary makes on the current system.
