Dr. Amy JL Baker has co-authored with Katherine Andre, PhD. a new book entitled I Don't Want to Choose: How Middle School Kids Can Avoid Choosing One Parent Over the Other.
The book will teach children how to manage loyalty conflicts by: Using Critical Thinking, Considering Options, Being true to themselves, developing coping skills, and more.
The book can be read by children alone or with Parents, School professionals, individual therapists, divorce educators, family mediators, and other caring adults.
The book is available at Dr. Amy Baker's website for $9.95. I ordered a copy and will be writing a review of the book in the coming weeks. After review we will be making a huge push to get this in the public and school libraries across the US. You can help! Contact us via email at familycourtisbad@att.net for more information.
Darren Mack Pled guilty with conditions in a Nevada Court. Many people speak of the incredible issues that they have to deal with when finding themselves in a family court situation. Many stories speak of suicide, while others ask questions like "Why not take the cause with them?" I never condone violence as a solution to this growing problem, but can speculate that as single-parent households increase, so will violence. Whether the violence be against the tyrannical anti-family courts or other citizens, is unknown, but there is no doubt that as goes one parent from the household, so goes society. If I was a gambling man, I wouldn't want to be a judge in this day and age!
Before Darren Mack entered his guilty plea for the shooting of Judge Chuck Weller he made sure of one thing. "It
was informed to me that you at my sentencing that I will have all the
time I need, because there are some very important things I would like
to share. I have remained quiet thru this whole thing and now I would
like to come forward and speak and it was represented that I would have
that with your honor."
Giving
Mack plenty of time to tell the court why he took a shot at family
court judge Chuck Weller will be top priority according to the judge. That's one reason for the additional time....but there will also be time for others. "My family and people of that nature can come and testify on my behalf."
Psychiatrists may also take the stand for the defense.
But
the hearing won't be one sided. Soorya Townley--Charla's mother may
also take the stand about the impact her daughter's murder has had on
her....Judge Chuck Weller could make an impact statement as well.
Prosecutor Robert Daskas gave a hint as to who he might call during the sentencing phase of the case.
"
It was our intent in rebuttal to call a Lucien Haag to the stand. He is
a renown fire arms expert and he will provide testimony regarding
velocity of that .243 caliber cartridge the fact the bullet entered
double pane glass and that certainly the defendant could not take those
things into consideration and then suggest to the jury he didn't intend
to kill."
Washoe District Court Judge Janet Berry says even a defedant with no prior record still faces tremendous scrunity.
"
If they have never been in trouble in their life and they come in big
time, like murder, rape robbery--horrible crime. Then oftentimes those
sentencing can depend upon victim impact statements the facts of the
case, and really to the passion of the case and the arguments of
counsel. But there are just certain things that we as citizens and
humans just won't tolerate and even if you have never been in trouble
in your life. You can end up serving a lot of prison time."
What we are facing today, much like others in the past, is a simple civil rights violation. This is how you get heard... Let your legislators know that you are fed up and not going to take it anymore! Demand equal rights and equal treatment, meaning equal access to your children!
The Equal Parenting Symposium was a success and will be airing on local public access television in the coming week around the metro Detroit area. The most recent symposium was in the City of Pontiac, in Oakland County. Politicians, Professionals, and interested citizens from all over the state appeared for presentations by Jim Semerad (Dads and Moms of Michigan), Dr. Michael Ross (Family Rights Coalition), Lary Holland (Family Court Problems), Jay Fedewa (Family Rights Coalition) and Minister Ronald Smith (Children Need Both Parents, Inc.).
As video becomes available, it will be uploaded and shared here! Also an audio podcast will be available later this week of the speeches that were given and available for sharing and download. This event was a success and even more people are now educated about the funding mechanisms of our Friend of the Court systems, the steep rewards that are provided for the creation of absent parent households, and the devastating effects of family court on our economy.
Thanks for the Family Rights Coalition, and the other members of the symposium for helping make this event such a success!
You may remember recently that Brian Downs and myself both spoke to the Flint City Council asking support for Michigan House Bill 4564, Michigan's presumption of equal custody bill. I ventured back in July to speak further to the Flint City Council. See below the presentation that I provided again to the Flint City Council. Also, Council Member Jackie Foster Poplar spoke in support of the bill and indicated that she issued a letter to Lansing about supporting House Bill 4564. She also told her side of the story in the below video which I encourage all of you to view. You can also send letters/emails of support directly to Jackie Poplar at jpoplar@cityofflint.com thanking her for supporting this critical issue.
Robert Pedersen & Rob Mackenzie are preparing to venture from the Michigan State Capitol Building all the way to Washington D.C. starting August 11th, 2007.
The Studio Guys at Studio 1714 are at it again with another excellent piece on Equal Parenting, Friend of the Court Abuse of Power, and Representative Brenda Clack holding up Michigan House bill 4564!
"Originally only a program to serve the needy has evolved into a program to serve the greedy," states Lary Holland. He further states that, "The Judges and Friend of the Court are the gatekeepers to debtors' prison in Michigan."
John Wilson, "How can they pay if they are in jail?"
"Parenting is a protected liberty, the friend of the court routinely takes away a significant amount of custody from a fit, willing, and caring parent and assign all the benefit nearly to one parent and most the burden, including financial burden, to the other parent," Holland elaborates.
"It's a double whammi", states Steve Brewer.
"It's like a snowball [effect]," further states John Wilson.
Brenda Clack is holding up Michigan House Bill 4564, Michigan's Presumption of Equal Custody Bill which raises the standards to keep both fit, willing, and competent parents in children's lives.

Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS) is the teaching of children of divorce or separation to harbor negative feelings and emotions toward the parent who generally does not have custody and does not reside in the same domicile. This is usually done in an effort for one parent to gain the respect and love of the children, while destroying the image and relationship of the absent parent. This phenomenon will generate feelings of hatred, ambivalence, and distance between children and the non-custodial parent. Our family court system does little to eliminate these occurrences, and although the parent affected is cheated of a normal relationship with the children, the real damage will manifest itself within the children.

Lary Holland and Brian Downs attend the regularly scheduled Flint City Council Meeting and present to the Council and the Audience on Equal Parenting and House Bill 4564.
Brian Downs and Lary Holland presented to the regularly Flint City Council Meeting and were invited back to discuss critical issues surrounding Equal Parenting and how it affects the City's long-term health and growth. "The next best thing to an intact family is a child having equal access to both fit, willing, and able parents," was the message presented. "Individuals coming together make families, families coming together make communities, communities come together to make government," stated Lary Holland and further, "If the most basic unit fails, so does the government."
Simply put "if the basic unit or building block is falling apart so will the government, you can't have a strong government or community when the family is being destroyed," states Holland. Both speakers indicated that you have to protect the family unit to strengthen the community.
The Flint City Council was provided detailed information pertaining to House Bill 4564 and Council members and President invited the speakers back to discuss these issues further and look into ways to strengthen the government by strengthening families.
Special thanks goes out to the Community Leaders, the Flint City Council, and the supportive residents that listened and attended. It means alot to see communities coming together to strengthen the most important building block, our children and families.
Additional thanks goes out to other Equal Parenting Supporters that showed up to lend their morale support on the issue, ready to help with anything that was necessary.
That's right folks, it was a wonderful hot and sunny Saturday Morning/Afternoon here at the Flint Gear Grinders Car Show in Fenton (Gennessee County), MI right in Representative Brenda Clack's backyard. A petition collecting signatures of Equal Parenting Supporters was available along with our Equal Parenting Flyers being distributed to both participants and visitors of the Car Show at Mo Doggies Bar and Grill. This event was yet another success of getting the word out in Representative Brenda Clack's Backyard that residents want children to have both of their fit, willing, and caring parents in their children's lives a subtantially equal amount of the time.
Lary Holland at the Flint Gear Grinders' Car Show in Fenton, MI. The event was at Mo Doggies Bar and Grill with over 45 participating cars in the event.
Representative Brenda Clack, in the Michigan House of Representatives, is currently holding up House Bill 4564, Michigan's Presumption of Equal Custody Bill, that creates a presumption that both parents should be involved a substantially equal amount of time in their children's lives as long as the same school schedule can be maintained.
Michigan House Bill 4564 is the right thing for parents, children, and taxpayers. Stop the government waste on programs that can be eliminated when there are two fit parents involved in their own children's lives. It takes a family to raise a child, not a community. Urge Representative to stop hold our children and Michigan House Bill 4564 hostage.
Mo Doggies Bar and Grill hosted the Flint Gear Grinders Car Show in Fenton, MI. Equal Parenting information was distributed throughout the event and over the PA System.
Thanks to the Flint Gear Grinders, Mo Doggies, and all of the sponsors that made this event possible for area parents, children, and the community.
